The President of India will honour Muskan Sethi, a professional poker player, with the ‘Women’s Achievers Award’. She will be one of the 100 women achievers who will receive the award from President Ram Nath Kovind.
The award ceremony is expected to take place in November 2017. Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi says that the awards will laud women who have been the first to achieve great success and make careers in male-dominated professions.
Muskan Sethi finds it hard to express her feelings and feels blessed to be a recipient of the award. Other awardees include Radhika Menon, the first female merchant navy captain; Punita Arora, the first woman to become a lieutenant general and Harshini Kanhekar, the first woman firefighter.
This is a rare recognition where the president will award a professional poker player. The felicitation will promote poker as a game of skill and encourage more female players to pursue it as a profession.
